Cleat position is personal, so the goal is to establish a secure starting point and fine-tune it based on your riding position and fit needs.
SPD-SL cleat installation at a glance:
- Confirm your shoes have a compatible three-bolt mounting pattern.
- Position the SPD-SL cleat on the sole.
- Install the three washers and cleat bolts.
- Provisionally tighten the bolts with a 4 mm hex wrench.
- Adjust the cleat position and test engagement and release.
- Final-tighten the cleat bolts to 5–6 Nm.
